Bring a little Bateman to your cooking life

Last winter, the film version of American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis's satirically tweaked Crime & Punishment, suddenly regained relevance after the now notorious leaking of star Christian Bale's tirade (which annoyingly-named director McG recently took the blame for) on the set of his new film Terminator: Salvation. This juxtaposed with last summer's controversy of possible domestic violence in the relationship of Bale and his wife left many to question exactly how much he was acting when he played Psycho anti-hero (to say the least) Patrick Bateman. While Bale has had a highly exploited tantrum, it's doubtful that his psychology mirrors in any way that of the nefarious Bateman. It is, however, easy to say that Bale wielded Bateman's knife like a pro, and I'm sure it isn't hard to get into the story when you've got a blood-stained prop in your hands.
This is what the always impressive brand Fred & Friends' brand-new "Evidence" knife instantly made pop into my head. It's a sleek, inspired design, the way some yuppie jerk would love it to be, but with the added quirk of fired-on bloodstains. For Halloween or everyday, it's a creepy piece of quality steel for your kitchen, and yeah, your friends might get freaked out when they find it in your silverware drawer, but at least they'll know you have a sense of humor and you're not actually the cold-blooded killer traipsing about the Upper East Side. It's a Freudian thing.
So forget that reservation tonight. Go buy yourself a filet mignon, turn on some Huey Lewis & the News, and don't freak out when the blood won't wash off-- you didn't do it this time.

Mission Statement

I've always loved finding items that reminded me of characters from books, movies, whatever-- they give me the same kind of feeling the story gives me, a temporary escape and a little time to step into the shoes of someone else, even if only for a little while. Everyone needs to escape at some point too, and doesn't everyone want to be the subject of a great story? Imitating Fiction is dedicated to all those little found things you can use to play make believe in your own life with some of the best and most famous stories around.
